Welcome to Web Design!
It is expected that in this four week unit you will learn:
- Learn the basics of HTML
- Learn the basics of CSS
- How to use HTML and CSS to make a website
- Learn and explain some of the design functions of the internet and websites
Assessment will be based on:
#1 – Introduction to HTML and CSS – Learn the proper techniques, terminology, and concepts around these two website design languages – 50 marks (based on correct completion)
#2– Learning HTML and CSS- Learning the basic functions of HTML and CSS programming and developing a skill set with their functions – 60 marks (based on correct completion)
#3 – Applying Techniques– a Project to test out the techniques you learned – 50 marks (based on correct completion, teacher observation, and a final presentation rubric)
#4 – Reflection/Review – a review of the unit for major components, a reflection on what you learned, and observations on other student projects –30 marks (based on correct completion)
All work is expected to be uploaded to your blog and when asked, to the teacher hand-in folder.
Week 1 -2 –
#1a – Website Design Theory – learn what makes a good website design? Use this first assignment to help understand and assess good and bad website design.
#1b – HTML – Getting Started – post the results of your first page as HTML script on your Unit 3 page.
#2 – Web Pages – HTML-CSS– upload the descriptions and screens shots to your Unit 3 page
Week 3 – 4
#3 – Holiday Site – HTML – CSS– create a working project, export it to the Hand-In folder, take screen shots and post them to your Unit 3 page explaining what you built.
#4 – Reflection-Review– answer these final questions, create a reflection, hand in your programs, and “snip” comments left on other student blogs
