Welcome to Unit 1 – Gaming Basics – Unity

Unit Outline

In this four week unit it is expected that you learn:

  • Learn the basics of game design, terminology
  • The tools, functions, and options of Unity 2D
  • How create a short 2D game
  • How to export your game

Assessment will be based on:

#1a – Intro to Game Creation – Learn the proper techniques, terminology, and concepts around game creation – 50 marks (based on correct completion)

#1b– Unity 2D/3D Terms – Learning the basic terminology of Unity- 30 marks (based on correct completion)

#2 – Unity Tutorial Elements– learning the basics of Unity 2D operations – 50 marks (based on correct completion, teacher observation)

#3 – Unity 2D Game – build a small game based on the Unity 2D tools – 50 marks (based on correct completion, teacher observation, and a rubric)

#4 – Reflection/Review – a review of the unit for major components, a reflection on what you learned, and observations on other student projects –30 marks (based on correct completion)

All work is expected to be uploaded to your blog and when asked, to the teacher hand-in folder.

Assessment will be based upon:

Week 1 –

#1a – Intro to Game Creation – Upload these as a Word Document to Unit 1 page

#1b – Unity 3D Terms – Create the crossword and use the Snipping tool to add this to Unit 1 page

Week 2 –

#2 – Unity 2D Tutorial Elements – Complete the tutorial and upload the Word Document to your Unit 1 page

Week 3-4

#3 – Unity 2D Game – create the game, hand in the exported game and Unity game files to the Hand-in Folder, take at least three screen shots with snipping tool and add them to the Unit 1 page with captions (to explain what is going on in the game)

#4- Reflection-Review – answer these final questions, create a reflection, hand in your programs, and “snip” comments left on other student blogs
