Welcome to Programming Basics and Java!

Unit Outline

It is expected that in this four week unit you will learn:

  • Learn the basics of programming terminology
  • Learn the basics of java programming
  • How to create a short java game
  • To modify and create an original java code game

Assessment will be based on:

#1 – Introduction to Programming – Learn the proper techniques, terminology, and concepts around programming – 50 marks (based on correct completion)

#2– Learning the Java Programming- Learning the basic functions of Java programming inside Eclipse and building a game – 60 marks (based on correct completion)

#3 – Applying Techniques– a Project to test out the techniques you learned – 50 marks (based on correct completion, teacher observation, and a final presentation rubric)

#4 – Reflection/Review – a review of the unit for major components, a reflection on what you learned, and observations on other student projects –30 marks (based on correct completion)

All work is expected to be uploaded to your blog and when asked, to the teacher hand-in folder.

Week 1 -2 –

#1a – Intro to Programming

#1b – Installing Java

#2 – Java Terms

Week 3 –

#3a – Java-Tutorials – create a Word document and upload it to your blog

Week 3 – 4

#3b – Simple Java Games– create a working project, export it to the Hand-In folder, take screen shots and post them to your Unit 1 page explaining what you built.

#4 – Reflection-Review – answer these final questions, create a reflection, hand in your programs, and “snip” comments left on other student blogs
